Offer DescriptionThe Sim4 Safety Lda. opens a call for a Research Contract for a Master or Ph D holder to participate in the R&D project Fire Sys, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the COMPETE 2030 / Centro 2030 programmes and the Research and Development Incentive System (SIID).Develop fire behaviour models for advanced fire simulation software.Develop accurate, high-resolution forest and wildfire mapping techniques from available satellite data.Use Artificial Intelligence for predictive analysis of wildfires.Design user‐centred decision‐support tools to assist firefighting teams and policymakers.Conduct pilot studies to demonstrate the digital platform applications in forest and wildfire management.ResponsibilitiesImplement state‐of‐the‐art fire spread algorithms in the fire simulator.Design and implement data input APIs to feed the fire simulator.Collaborate closely with project partners to integrate the fire simulator within the digital platform architecture.Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior researchers, holding regular meetings to support progress and align work with project goals.Participate in all project partner meetings, including technical and quality management sessions, to coordinate research activities and ensure adherence to milestones.Prepare and deliver high‐quality project documentation, including technical deliverables and scientific publications.Manage, plan, execute, and analyse pilot deployments in real‐world forest environments, coordinating performance evaluations and system validations to assess accuracy, robustness, and scalability of developed solutions.QualificationsMaster or Ph D holder in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics or a related field.Strong background in computer programming; experience in remote sensing, wildfire behaviour and modelling.Proficiency in C++ and/or Python.Knowledge of 3 D mapping, GIS, Digital Twin architectures, interoperable APIs and semantic mapping highly valued.Knowledge of wildfire behaviour required.Remote sensing knowledge required.Digital Twin construction knowledge valued.BenefitsContract duration: Until at least 31 August 2028, with possibility of renewal.
