Grupo JAP is recruiting an HR Manager (Expatriate) to support and drive HR operations for our business in East Africa, based in Kenya.
This role is designed for a high-potential HR professional who can operate hands-on in the field while acting as a local HR Business Partner, ensuring strong execution of HR processes, compliance, and people support aligned with HQ standards.
The successful candidate will begin with a 3–4-month onboarding period in Portugal, to learn the business model, processes, culture, and stakeholders, and will then relocate to Kenya to provide day-to-day HR leadership on the ground.
Key Responsibilities
HR Operations (On-the-ground execution)
Ensure smooth HR day-to-day operations in Kenya, Tanzania & Uganda (employee lifecycle: onboarding, contracts, documentation, attendance, leave, HR records).
Support payroll inputs and coordination with local payroll providers/finance (as applicable).
Maintain accurate HR files and ensure strong documentation discipline.
HR Business Partnering (Local leadership support)
Act as the HR point of contact for local managers, supporting workforce planning, staffing needs, and operational decision-making.
Provide guidance on employee relations topics, performance follow-up, and day-to-day people management challenges.
Support internal communication and help reinforce company culture and standards.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Coordinate local recruitment processes (screening, interviews, selection logistics) in alignment with HQ.
Drive onboarding and integration of new hires, ensuring consistency and compliance.
Compliance & Policies
Ensure alignment with local labor practices and internal policies, coordinating with external advisors when needed.
Support the implementation of HR procedures and ensure adherence across the operation.
Reporting & Coordination with Portugal (HQ)
Provide regular reporting to HQ on HR KPIs, staffing status, risks, and operational priorities.
Work closely with the Portugal HR team to implement initiatives and ensure consistency across locations.
Candidate Profile
Required
Fluent English (written and spoken), Native in Portuguese.
Full availability to relocate to Kenya after the initial 3–4 month onboarding period in Portugal.
Solid experience in HR operational management (e.g., HR generalist/HR officer/HR manager), with proven capability to manage HR processes end-to-end.
Strong hands-on approach, organization, discretion, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced operational environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and credibility to act as a local Business Partner to managers and teams.
