What you'll be doing:
We are looking for a highly motivated Engineer to contribute to the development, design, and operation of high-altitude platforms (HAPS – High Altitude Pseudo-Satellites), such as solar-powered UAVs, stratospheric balloons, or long-endurance aerial systems, with a focus on lightweight structures, energy efficiency, and autonomous flight control.
Core technical abilities we're looking for:
1. Aerodynamics and High-Altitude Performance
2. Analysis and optimisation of aerodynamic performance in stratospheric flight regimes (low Reynolds number, high lift conditions).
3. CFD simulation tools: Ansys Fluent, XFOIL, SU2.
4. Modelling and performance assessment under extreme atmospheric conditions.
5. Lightweight Structures and Composite Materials
6. Structural design using advanced composite materials (carbon fibre, sandwich panels, honeycomb cores).
7. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with tools such as ANSYS, NASTRAN, Abaqus.
8. Structural optimisation for minimum weight and high mechanical integrity.
9. Electric Propulsion and Solar Power Systems
10. Integration of brushless electric motors and electronic speed controllers (ESCs).
11. Sizing of solar panels and batteries (Li-ion, Li-Po) for long-endurance operations.
12. Thermal management in low-pressure, low-temperature environments.
13. Flight Control and Navigation
14. Modelling and control of UAV dynamics using Simulink, MATLAB, and C/C++.
15. Implementation of control algorithms (PID, LQR, MPC).
16. Integration and configuration of autopilot systems (PX4, ArduPilot).
17. Certification and Operational Safety
18. Knowledge of EASA regulations (Part 21, Part M, Part 145) and FAA equivalents.
19. Safety assessment, risk analysis, and FMEA for critical systems.
20. Familiarity with DO-178C (avionics software) and DO-254 (critical hardware).
Must-Haves:
* Bachelor's or master's in aerospace or aeronautical engineering or related fields, ideally with a focus on structures, aerodynamics, or control systems.
· Postgraduate specializations in UAVs, composite structures, embedded systems or solar power will be highly valued.
* 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the aeronautical sector.
* Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
