Onsite Operator (L1) – Data Centre Operations Location: Sines, Portugal Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent Shift Pattern: Rotational Shift Work (Days, Weekends & On-Call) Our client is a specialist data centre services provider supporting hyperscale, AI, and mission-critical infrastructure environments across Europe. Due to continued growth, they are seeking multiple Onsite Operators to support day-to-day smart hands operations, deployment activities, and hardware lifecycle management within a large-scale data centre environment in Portugal. This is a hands‐on operational role suited to candidates with previous data centre, server room, IT infrastructure, or smart hands experience who are comfortable working within structured operational environments and live customer facilities. The Onsite Operator will act as the first physical responder on‐site, supporting hardware installations, smart hands tickets, structured cabling, server maintenance activities, and operational support within a live production environment. Successful candidates will work closely with senior technical teams while supporting customer infrastructure through structured processes, ticketing systems, and operational procedures. Key Responsibilities Support day‐to‐day smart hands and data centre operational activities. Perform server reseats, cable swaps, drive replacements, and hardware diagnostics. Carry out visual inspections, equipment checks, and photo documentation. Support rack & stack deployments including servers, switches, and PDUs. Install and manage copper and fibre cabling within data centre environments. Maintain accurate asset tracking, inventory management, and serial number records. Support hardware receiving, RMA processing, and equipment organisation. Log all completed work and updates within ticketing systems. Follow operational procedures, runbooks, and shift handover processes. Maintain compliance with customer safety, security, and access procedures. Support live operational environments with minimal disruption to customer services. Requirements Experience within data centres, server rooms, IT operations, or smart hands environments. Hands‐on experience with server hardware, cabling, or infrastructure support activities. Basic understanding of fibre and copper cabling standards and handling procedures. Comfortable working within live production and operational environments. Ability to follow documented operational procedures and ticket workflows. Good communication and written English skills. Comfortable with shift work, weekend coverage, and on‐call responsibilities. Physically capable of rack work, lifting equipment, and working within technical environments. Experience with ticketing systems such as Jira or ServiceNow advantageous. Desirable Experience Experience within hyperscale or colocation data centre environments. Exposure to GPU infrastructure, HPC environments, or AI deployments. Familiarity with structured smart hands operations and deployment activities.
